Juan Marcos Gonzalez, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Population Health Sciences at Duke University and a leading expert in the design and analysis of stated‑preference studies. His work focuses on improving transparency in benefit–risk evaluations of medical interventions and on eliciting health preferences from patients, clinicians, and other stakeholders to support shared decision‑making. Dr. Gonzalez co‑led the first FDA‑sponsored patient‑preference study cited in the FDA’s precedent‑setting guidance on the use of patient‑preference evidence in regulatory decision‑making for medical devices. He has collaborated extensively with FDA and the Medical Device Innovation Consortium, contributed to ISPOR good‑practice recommendations for conjoint analysis, and currently supports the FDA’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health in strengthening regulatory review of stated‑preference evidence.
